Drag-Ens 45th Anniversary
4 - 5 August 2007
The Drag-Ens celebrated their 45 years of continuous hot rodding with a gala get-to-gether with 160 past and present members and their partners at the clubrooms on Saturday 4 August 2007.
The evening kicked off with everyone meeting and greeting old friends and there was a lot of "can't remember your name" happening as in a lot of cases it had been many years since people had seen each other.
After a finger food buffet, the current president of the club, Eric Kennedy, welcomed everyone to this special occasion and called upon Foundation Member Ronnie Williams to say a few words. Ronnie recalled how the club started and outlined the history from 1962 up until about 1977.
Bob Kurtz then spoke on the club's progress since 1977 which was a significant year with the first club organised run to Valla Park.
Subsequent years saw the acquisition of the clubrooms and Bob made special mention of the members who played an important part in the initial setup. What started out as a bare factory is now the showpiece of the club and is a virtual museum for the Drag-Ens Hot Rod Club memorabilia.
Garry Gregory delivered an excellent speech, paying tribute to the guys who founded the club back in 1962. Four of the original foundation members, namely, Ronnie Williams, Terry O'Neil, Neil Micklesson and Graeme Moore were in attendance and none of them ever thought that what they started 45 years ago would still be running strong today.
Ronnie Williams is still an active member of the club and it was fitting to recognise his continuous membership with a special presentation of a club jacket with his name, foundation member and 45 years in rodding embroidered on the front.
All members and ex-members were presented with an anniversary badge and a collage depicting club cars of various eras.
Sunday was open day at the clubrooms and it was great to see so many rods from various clubs in the car park.
Here are a few photos of the night and the Sunday open day.
